OUR JOURNEY
Scallywag Air was born out of a shared passion for adventure and the opportunity to experience flight in its purest form. Owners Chip and Amanda Ferguson are the heart of this business, splitting their time between Alaska and Galveston.
Together, they run the world-famous Alaska Rainbow Lodge, where they spend half the year immersed in the wild beauty of the Alaskan wilderness. The other half, you’ll find them on Galveston Island, where their love of aviation took wing with Scallywag Air and the acquisition of two stunning Waco biplanes.
Chip, a seasoned Alaskan bush pilot, leads the way in the cockpit, while Amanda (who is currently in pilot training!) brings her own energy and vision to the skies. Their combined spirit of adventure shapes everything they do.
There’s simply no better way to explore the Gulf Coast than with Scallywag Air.

MEET THE SCALLYWAG TEAM

CHIP FERGUSON
FOUNDER/PILOT
As co-owner of both Alaska Rainbow Lodge and Scallywag Air, Chip splits his year between the wild rivers of Alaska and the open skies of Galveston Island.
After attending Texas A&M in Galveston, Chip made the island his off-season home, but his passion for aviation never took a break. That drive led to the creation of Scallywag Air and the addition of two classic Waco biplanes, bringing vintage aviation to the Gulf Coast in unforgettable fashion. Chip brings the same spirit, expertise, and warmth from Alaska to Galveston, defining every Ferguson venture.

AMANDA FERGUSON
FOUNDER/PILOT IN TRAINING
Amanda Ferguson is co-owner of Scallywag Air and Alaska Rainbow Lodge, where her love of adventure and hospitality shines year-round. While she’s not yet a pilot, Amanda is currently in flight training and embracing every opportunity to share the joy of aviation.
Her background in business and creative energy help shape the personal touch and experience that makes Scallywag Air so special. Whether she’s greeting guests on the dock in Alaska or coordinating flights on Galveston Island, Amanda’s enthusiasm and eye for detail help bring every adventure to life.

SARA ETHERINGTON
PILOT
Sara Etherington is a third-generation pilot and the sixth in her family to take to the skies. She owns and flies a Citabria and has competed in the Air Race Classic.
She volunteers with EAA and Ladies Love Taildraggers, members who are passionate about helping others (especially women) and who fall in love with aviation the way she did. Currently working toward her CFI and A&P certificates, Sara’s long-term goal is to open her own flight school focused on tailwheel instruction. For her, flying is about skill, tradition, and community—and she’s committed to keeping all three alive.

NATHAN FEATHERSTON
PILOT
Nathan Featherston, an IBC (Islander By Choice), took his first flight in a Cessna 140 and began his career in the skies 10 years ago, training in a Cessna 172. Since then, he has pursued his love of aviation through various ratings and spends his summers as a commercial float pilot in a deHavilland Beaver for clients in Alaska.
For Nathan, flying is the ultimate freedom, where he is always learning and honing new skills. He is especially drawn to biplanes because they are beautiful, and he loves flying an airframe that was designed in the early days of aviation.
